Residents and Fellows

Residents and Fellows Forum & House Staff Association

Chair's Message

This year marked the start of a new era for both the Northwell Health System’s Residents and Fellows Forum, as well as the Lenox Hill Hospital’s House Staff Association. Following in line with the merger of Lenox Hill Hospital into Northwell Health, as well as the merging of the previously two independent GME Committees, the RFF and HSA have embarked on a pathway of mutual cooperation. At this point in time, we have engaged in a number of joint activities over the course of the year. Our goal is to expand both groups and to have resident representation at all campuses with the common goal of improving the lives of residents and fellows. We continue the tradition of holding regularly scheduled meetings and hosting social events.

The RFF produces 2 issues of a resident newsletter per year and has organized several volunteer endeavors within the community. We have volunteered at the Citi Field Kiosk, and enjoyed the experience of being able to provide valuable health information while also catching the Mets in action. Early this academic year, the RFF volunteered as a group at the Nassau Community Health Fair. This was a very successful and well attended event.

One new, important initiative that we are pursuing is to foster resident leadership skills. With that objective in mind, we hope to help residents and fellows become more engaged in the Quality Improvement (QI) process. Another initiative being pursued is the implementation of a health system wide mobile technology protocol.

At Lenox Hill, we are working on opening our rooftop deck, to hang out and have a nice garden there. We hope to establish a quarterly speaking series, with guest speakers such as those involved in medical missions, or those who will speak on issues related to volunteering / philanthropy.

The Young Investigators Society

The Young Investigators Society is an academic association of trainees in the basic sciences programs of the Northwell Health System. Membership is comprised of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows currently pursuing basic research projects. The society is recognized and advised by the administration and faculty of the Feinstein Institute. The ultimate goal of the Society is twofold: to provide an environment that is designed to promote networking and foster career development for the trainees at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, and to enhance the visibility of the Institute through success of its trainees.
