The three Northwell hospitals recognized are South Shore University Hospital, Glen Cove Hospital and Long Island Jewish Valley Stream
Northwell Health today announced that it is the first health system in the United States to achieve accreditation as a Network of Excellence in Hernia Surgery from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).
Status as an accredited Network of Excellence in Hernia Surgery means that Northwell has met nationally and internationally recognized standards. The stringent accreditation process evaluates the surgery program’s documentation, performs an extensive review of medical charts, conducts interviews with faculty and team members and includes an onsite visit
“This prestigious accreditation signals that Northwell’s hernia surgery program is among the best in the nation and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible for its patients,” said Gene Coppa, MD, senior vice president and executive director, surgical services. “The health system continually strives to provide state-of-the-art advanced technologies and patient-focused care to meet the needs of the community.”
The first three Northwell hospitals to earn the accreditation are:
- South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, led by Andrew Bates, MD
- Glen Cove Hospital, led by Samer Sbayi, MD
- Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital, led by Gainosuke Sugiyama, MD
“Being part of Northwell Health’s groundbreaking journey towards becoming the first health system in the U.S. to achieve accreditation as a Network of Excellence in Hernia Surgery is truly inspiring,” said Dr. Bates. “This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care and pushing the boundaries in hernia surgery.”
